19. Овцы

Christians in the Holy Scriptures are called sheep because there are many similarities between Christians and sheep. Sheep do not harm any livestock. Likewise, Christians do not offend anyone. There is simplicity in sheep. When a wolf kills one sheep, they don’t run away, but everyone looks at it. Likewise, Christians are simple-hearted, “wise in good and simple in evil” (Rom. 16:19). Sheep bring great benefits to their owners, that is, they provide them with wool, milk, leather, and meat. Likewise, Christians are kind and useful to everyone, and they offer sacrifices of praise and confession to God, their Lord. Peace and harmony are noticeable in the sheep, for even in a small stable there are many of them. Likewise, Christians are peaceful and agree with each other. Sheep are characterized by meekness and patience: when they are sheared, they are silent, and when they are beaten, they are silent. Likewise, Christians are humble, meek and patient. Envy is not noticeable in sheep, because when they eat, they do not fight among themselves. Likewise, Christians are not envious. Sheep are very greedy because they eat a lot. Likewise, Christians, although pious, always hunger and thirst for piety. Sheep are obedient to their shepherds. Likewise, Christians are obedient to their Shepherd and Lord Jesus Christ. “My sheep obey my voice,” says Christ (John 10:27). You see, Christian, the properties of the sheep of Christ, true Christians! Think about yourself whether you belong to this blessed flock.
