1. On New Year’s Day, say 2000 prayers, not all while standing and not all while sitting, but when you can, stand, and when you can’t, sit. Three hundred bows - not all together, but as best you can. 2. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, eat dry food once and drink water. 3. Let even the memory of your wife never enter your cell. 4. When the brethren come to your cell, receive them and give them peace, but do not go out of your own order and rule, if only some brother happens to be honest and reverent, and the hour for eating food comes, then allow him to do so, however moderately and reverently. 5. Do not allow yourself any consolation outside your cell, unless you happen to end up in some honest and reverent house, but even there do not allow more than three cups. 6. Read one Gospel from the Four Gospels every week. 7. When Christians allow on Wednesday and Friday, you also allow. On the Lord's holidays, act according to the rules. 8. You too should fulfill the observances that Christians have - such as: Midnight Office, Matins, Hours, Vespers and Compline. 9.
