Having familiarized you with the statutes and goals of the Societies, you deigned to see that on January 15, 1893, with God's help, our Society was opened under the name “S. - St. Petersburg Society for Mutual Assistance in Case of Death,” with three groups: 60 kopecks, 1 rub. and 3 rubles. and they were valid for 2 years; but during these 2 years, so many applications were received from persons wishing to join our Society that the Board was forced to inform Messrs. about this. authorized and make a proposal to petition the Government for permission to open a parallel branch in each of the three groups. The Ministry of Internal Affairs respected the request of the Board and in 1895 the I and II groups of the parallel department were opened, and then in 1896 the III group, so that our Society now consists of 6 active groups, of which there are 1680 members, except their wives, and all (in total) more than 3000 members. The benefit was issued according to the following table always without any delay and amounts to the amount issued so far of 52,000 rubles. Now the reserve capital has formed 76,000 rubles. and consists of 73,000 rubles. in% of securities deposited in the State Bank for safekeeping with management, but only about 3 thousand rubles. are with the Board for issuing benefits. Currently, the Board has sought permission from the requested 4 groups. The advantages of our Society, as you can see from the Charter, are the following: 1) A member pays the following contribution not immediately for a year, or for several years, but with each death of the group in which he belongs and within 14 days; 2) The husband pays for himself and the benefit is given in the event of his death to his wife, or to another person by his order. And in the event of the death of the wife, the husband finds that there is only one payer, and two recipients; and the more deaths a member has paid for, the greater the amount will be after his death (see table); 3) every 10 deaths, an increase in benefits is made; 4) a member who leaves the Society for any of his reasons receives back that part of the contributions made by him which is due to him according to the annual report; 5) a member who has paid 170 contributions no longer pays anything, and in the event of his or his wife’s death, the benefit is paid at the highest rate (see table). The affairs of our Society, one can safely say, are brilliant and the Board is proud that its labors and concerns were not in vain, that more than one family, having received benefits, thanked the Lord God for the existence of such a beneficent institution. Some members of our large family, with full confidence in the humane actions of the members of the Board, even instructed them to manage the funeral of the deceased, a member of the Society, and the Board did not refuse this, but carried out the will exactly and with complete readiness.
