World Alzheimer's Day is marked annually on September 21 to raise awareness of the disease and combat the stigma of people affected by dementia.

The day was established in 1994 by Alzheimer's Disease International, and the month of September is dedicated internationally to information and awareness about dementia.

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 57 million people were suffering from dementia worldwide in 2021, and Alzheimer's disease accounts for 60-70% of cases.

The condition affects memory, thinking and the ability to carry out daily activities. Early signs include forgetting recent information, disorientation, and difficulty finding words or performing common tasks.
