On September 13, 2026, in the largest city of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Yangon, a historical event took place - the first wedding in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church in this country.

The Liturgy and the subsequent Sacrament of Marriage were celebrated in the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the city of Yangon, reports the website of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia.

“At the end of the service, a significant event took place in the church - for the first time in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church in Myanmar, the Sacrament of Wedding was performed,” the message emphasizes.

After the wedding, a common meal took place in the parish, during which, as noted, “the parishioners were able to share the joy of this important event.”

That's wonderful news from Yangon. First wedding in the Transfiguration church — I hope the couple has a long and peaceful life together. Did any locals from Myanmar attend the Liturgy too?

Yes bro, the first wedding at Transfiguration church in Yangon is a good step. I'm glad they also had agape after the Liturgy, as it should be. Elizabeth, do you have any idea if the bride and groom were Russians settled there or local converts?
