The Ukrainian monastery "Birth of St. John the Baptist" in Ruscova-Oblaz, Maramureș, celebrated its patron on Monday, according to the unrevised calendar.

On this occasion, the Holy Liturgy was celebrated by a council of 14 priests from the Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate, led by Fr. Vicar Marius Lauruc.

The sermon in Romanian was delivered by Fr. councilor Ioan Iurcea, and Father Marius Lauruc preached in Ukrainian.

At the end of the Holy Liturgy, the monastery church was surrounded by a procession made up of young people dressed in folk costumes, priests and believers.

The abbot of the monastic settlement, father Gurie Bocicorec, thanked the faithful for participating in the monastery celebration, offering an agape, as is tradition.

Praise be to God that they celebrated according to the old calendar and that there were 14 priests. I liked the procession with the young people in folk costumes, I can still see how they surrounded the church. Father Gurie did well with that agape, that's how it should be in the monastery.

I am glad that you also liked the procession with the young people in folk costumes - I also imagine how they looked in Ruskova. Also, the agape after the service is just like we did in the monastery near Sofia, people leave with a warm feeling. Have you ever been to a church there?

I'm glad that you also liked the agapati after the service - here in Ruse, after the church feast, we always leave something for the people so that they don't leave hungry. The procession with the young people in costumes must have been beautiful, especially in such a place as Ruskova. Which part of Bulgaria are you from, Krasimira?

It was good to see the young people in their traditional dress leading that procession around the church—reminded me of the old village feasts back home. Father Gurie always keeps it straightforward like you said, no fuss, just the Liturgy and a proper agape afterward. Did you make it up to Ruscova this year?

I really liked that you paid attention to the procession with the young people in costumes - and I can imagine how they walked around the church in Ruskova. Here in Tarnovo, after the church holiday, we also make agala, but simpler, with whatever is in the kitchen. Which part of Bulgaria are you from, Krasimira?

It is good that they stayed on the old calendar, as it should be in the monastery. I know Father Gourier, he is really a calm man and he will always do Agape with his heart. Lela, if you were ever in Ruskova today, what did you miss the most?

Yeah, those kids in the traditional outfits really made the procession feel like the old days. I didn't get up to Ruscova this year, but I heard the agape was generous as always. Did Father Gurie mention anything about next year's feast?
