Orthodox Calendar October 5 Venerable Saints Daniel and Misael from Turnu Monastery Venerable Hermits Saints Daniel and Misael were born in the second half of the sixteenth century in the region of Oltenia.

Still in their youth, they were lovers of struggles for the sake of God and willing to attain to holy life, having a fiery love for our Saviour Jesus Christ and His Immaculate Mother.

Wherefore, complying with the holy commandment of the Lord: Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me (Matthew 16:24), they left their homes, their parents, brethren, relatives and friends, and entered Cozia Monastery as novices, living in obedience and humbleness, following the Son of God, Who became obedient for us, unto death on a cross (Philippians 2:8).

It is interesting that both of them are from Olteaning and went together to Cosiu. Further in the text it breaks off with "much desired…". Galina, do you know how it all ended — did they return to Turnu or did they remain in obedience?

Yes, and it did occur to me that we are both from Oltenia and that we went together to Cozia Monastery. It is a pity that the text cuts off exactly at "much desired…", leaving us with a bitter taste. Perhaps someone from the monastery can tell us if they returned to Turnu or stayed there until the end?

Yes, both are from Oltenia - it is rare for brothers in spirit to go to the monastery together. It’s a pity that the text ends, I also wanted to finish reading it. Have you tried looking for a complete life in Romanian or in a book about Turnu?
