The ancient Spaso-Preobrazhensky church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the village of Belozorye, Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine, was seized right during the commemoration service.

Rebel forces, represented by police officers and people in military uniforms, entered the church after the Liturgy when most of the parishioners had already gone home. Only a few believers and a clergyman remained in the church who was conducting the commemoration service.

"Police and military personnel ordered the priest to immediately leave the premises and announced that henceforth the church would be considered "property of the POCU" [the schismatic so-called Ukrainian Orthodox Church – ed.]," the statement said.

The rebels plan to begin their "services" in the seized church on September 27.

It is noted that supporters of the POCU already had their own premises in the village, but they "decided to deprive believers of the possibility of conducting services in their own church," according to the report.
