In Svetlogorsk, the school year began with prayertranslated

September 2, 2026 · 1 min read

On Knowledge Day, Svetlogorsk teachers gathered in the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord for a prayer service before the start of the school year. During the service they prayed for strength for teachers and students, wisdom for teachers and zeal for schoolchildren.

The prayer service was performed by the dean of the Svetlogorsk district, Archpriest Alexander Kisel. The head of the education department of the Svetlogorsk district executive committee, Zhanna Vasilievna Cherkas, and the directors of the city’s schools prayed during the service.

In his sermon, Archpriest Alexander Kisel noted the importance of pedagogical work in educating the younger generation. He emphasized that the teacher imparts knowledge to students in academic subjects and contributes to their spiritual and moral development.

At the end of the prayer service, those gathered were sprinkled with holy water. The teachers were presented with icons of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk.

A good start to the year, especially since the prayer service was held in the Transfiguration Church, and not just in the assembly hall. The icons of Saint Euphrosynia of Polotsk for teachers are exactly on topic, she herself taught. I hope that Zhanna Vasilievna Cherkas and school principals also felt supported.
