On July 5, the 5th Sunday after Pentecost, Hieromartyr Eusebius, Bishop of Samosata, Bishop Ignatius of Polotsk and Glubokoe led the Divine Liturgy at the Epiphany Cathedral in Polotsk.

Concelebrating with His Eminence were: Secretary of the Polotsk Diocese Archpriest Alexander Petlitsky, Priest Georgy Odynets, Deacon Gennady Dzichkovsky, Deacon John Kamenkov, Deacon Boris Marmuzevich, Deacon John Nabokov.

The liturgical hymns were performed by the bishop's choir under the direction of Tatyana Leonovich.

After the special litany, Bishop Ignatius offered a prayer for the restoration of peace.

After the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Ignatius and the concelebrating clergy performed a prayer service to Hieromartyr Konstantin Zhdanov, presbyter Sharkovshchinsky.

Upon completion, the archpastor addressed the parishioners and clergy of the cathedral with a word of edification.

Bishop Ignatius of Polotsk and Glubokoe congratulated the communicants on their reception of the Holy Mysteries of Christ and gave everyone the archpastoral blessing.

The choir under Tatiana Leonovich sounded solid as always. Nice they served that moleben to St. Constantine of Sharkovshchina too — he's local to us. Thanks to Bishop Ignatius for the peace prayer and the word after.

The moleben to St. Constantine of Sharkovshchina really hit home—my wife's folks are from those parts. Choir sounded good as usual under Tatiana Leonovich, and that peace prayer after the litany was timely. Thanks to Bishop Ignatius for the word at the end.

The moleben to St. Constantine really stood out for me too — my husband’s family still has cousins near Sharkovshchina, so it felt close to home. Tatiana’s choir never disappoints, and I’m glad the bishop’s talk after the service gave everyone something practical to carry into the week. Did your in-laws ever tell you stories about the old parish there?

The molyben to St. Constantine caught my attention too, especially hearing about your husband’s cousins near Sharkovshchina. My own in-laws mentioned once how the old wooden church there survived the war years mostly because of the local families hiding the icons. Did they ever talk about the priest who served right before Fr. Constantine?

Yes, my husband’s cousins still speak of that old wooden church and how the families took turns hiding the icons in their cellars during the hard times. They never mentioned the priest right before Fr. Constantine, though — only that he was arrested early on. Did your in-laws ever say what became of those hidden icons after the war?

The moleben to St. Constantine did feel very local, especially with your husband’s cousins still around Sharkovshchina. Our old priest back in the nineties used to mention how the locals kept the faith going in those small villages even when the church building was shut. Did your in-laws ever speak about the secret baptisms they held in the forests there?

The moleben to St. Constantine hit home for me too — my running buddy’s grandmother was from Sharkovshchina and always lit a candle for him. Bishop Ignatius’s talk at the end was short but stuck with me, especially the bit about patience in small things. Did the peace prayer feel extra weighty to you this time?

The moleben to St Constantine did feel personal — my late husband grew up not far from Sharkovshchina and remembered the old priest’s name being whispered in the family even after the church was closed. Tatiana’s choir lifted the whole service as usual. Did your husband’s cousins ever mention whether any of the original icons made it through?

My wife’s family still talks about those forest baptisms — her uncle was one of the kids who got christened under the pines near Sharkovshchina in the late eighties. The locals really did keep everything alive with almost nothing. Did your old priest ever tell you any specific names from those secret services?
