On July 19, in the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Leskolovo, a meeting took place with Elena Gorbacheva, the great-great-granddaughter of the Hieromartyr Peter Skipetrov.

The guest spoke about the life and pastoral ministry of her great-grandfather, his family and entourage, which included the holy righteous John of Kronstadt, the hieromartyr Philosopher of Ornatsky and other famous church figures of St. Petersburg. The story was accompanied by photographs and documents from the book “Peter Skipetrov. The Way of the Cross of the Holy Martyr." The meeting participants also watched a film about the first new martyrs of the period of persecution of the Russian Church.

Archpriest Pyotr Skipetrov graduated from the St. Petersburg Theological Academy and served in the capital for many years, and since 1912 he was rector of the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow.” On February 1, 1918, during an attempt to seize the premises of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, he stood up for women who were threatened with weapons by armed Red Guards, and was mortally wounded. In 2001, Father Peter was canonized as a hieromartyr.
