“The Queen of Heaven is with us to this day”: Neopalimovsky Church celebrated its patronal feasttranslated

On September 17, on the day of celebration in honor of the icon of the Mother of God, called the “Burning Bush,” one of the oldest churches in Ulyanovsk celebrates its patronal feast day. The Divine Liturgy on this day was performed by Metropolitan Longin of Simbirsk and Novospassky.

His Eminence was served by the sacristan of the church, Archpriest Nikolai Arkhangelsky, Archpriest Nikolai Vasiliev, Priest Igor Kazachkov, the head of the protocol service of the Simbirsk diocesan administration, Priest Valery Stavrovsky, Deacon Grigory Shevchenko, and Deacon Alexy Terekhin.

Employees of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Ulyanovsk Region, led by the head of the department, Major General of the Internal Service Mikhail Osokin, took part in the worship service and procession of the cross.

In his sermon before Communion, the church custodian, dean of the first Simbirsk city district, Archpriest Nikolai Arkhangelsky, spoke about the history of the appearance of the icon of the Mother of God “The Burning Bush”. The priest reminded those gathered about the appearance of a burning, but not burning bush (a plant growing on Sinai) to the prophet Moses on Mount Sinai. This was a prototype of the Mother of God: She carried God within her - a scorching fire, but not scorching human nature.
