During menstruation, women are allowed to pray and venerate Orthodox shrines, including icons and relics. The physiological process in modern church practice is not considered an obstacle to such actions. Priest Viktor Nikishov told Foma magazine about this.

The priest explained that modern hygiene means allow women to visit churches without fear of desecrating them. The concept of female ritual impurity during menstruation in the current practice of the Church does not prevent the worship of shrines. Moreover, it is not a reason for refusing prayer.

Nikishov recalled that requirements for ritual purity existed in the Old Testament. The strict regulations of that time also applied to women during menstruation. For Christians, as the clergyman explained, these ritual restrictions lost their force, and spiritual rather than physical purity acquired primary importance.
