Students of the Shcheglov Academy are restoring the iconostasis in a Vologda churchtranslated

Works are being carried out at the Church of St. Dimitry of Priluky on Navorok. For several years now, the Vologda Eparchy has been collaborating with the Saint Petersburg State Academy of Arts and Industry named after Shcheglov. They continue their joint efforts to preserve the church complex on Navorok.

As part of this partnership, students from the academy are gaining practical experience in restoration work, while cultural heritage monuments receive professional attention. Previously, over two years, students from the decorative-applied arts department, under the faculty of painting and restoration, had inspected the baroque iconostasis dating back to the 18th century.

The sanctuary is located in the cold church of St. Dimitry of Priluky on the Embankment of the Sixth Army. Experts determined the state of the fragments of the iconostasis and some were sent for professional restoration. Meanwhile, they also studied and participated in reinforcing frescoes painted at the beginning of the 18th century.

This academic year, it has been decided to recreate completely lost fragments of the iconostasis. Students will perform the practical part of the work by cutting elements in workshops under the guidance of instructors from the academy. Thus, students will practice complex techniques on real objects and restore their historical appearance.
