Six new canonizations by the Ecumenical Patriarchate

Canonization ceremonies for six Athonite Fathers were held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Patriarchal Church in the Phanar, following the conclusion of the Holy and Sacred Synod’s proceedings.
The newly canonized saints are four Athonite Fathers of Romanian origin—Hieromonk Niphon, Monk Nektarios the “Protopsaltis,” Hieromonk Dionysios of Kolitsou, and Hieromonk Petronios—as well as Hieromonk Tychon the Spiritual Father and Monk Georgios, known as Hadji-Georgis.
The relevant Patriarchal and Synodal Acts were signed by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the members of the Holy and Sacred Synod.
Earlier, the Synod met under the chairmanship of the Ecumenical Patriarch, considered the items on its agenda, and adopted the relevant decisions.
During the meeting, the services of the Small and Great Message were held for Bishop Kallinikos of Medea, who was elected in July 2026 to serve as auxiliary bishop to Metropolitan Ambrosios of Karpathos and Kasos.
Bishop Kallinikos received the congratulations of the Ecumenical Patriarch, the members of the Synod, and the Patriarchal Court.
