Orthodox calendar, July 17 Holy Great Martyr Marina Saint Marina was born in Antioch of Pisidia, being the daughter of a servant of pagan idols, namely Edesia. When her mother died, Marina was entrusted to a woman from a village outside the city to raise her. Reaching the age of 12 and hearing about Christ, he prayed to be taught the Christian faith. And she was taught by some in the village where she lived, and began to live in prayer and in perfect wisdom and purity, wanting to follow the Martyrs of that time.

When she turned 15, she was brought before the mayor of the city, Olimvrie by name, who, hearing that she did not worship idols, imprisoned her. Then she was brought to court and, seeing her, the governor marveled at her beauty and, asking her what her name and nationality were, she said: "My name is Marina, I was born in Pisidia and I believe in the name of Christ."

So, not wanting her to deny Christ, the governor ordered that they lay her down and she was beaten with rods, mercilessly, so that the ground was red with her blood. He then ordered that they hang her on the pole and mutilate her body with sharp tools for a long time. And the virgin suffered...

At the age of 12, Marina was already looking for faith, although her father was a pagan. Our daughter is also 12, and I read this and think how important it is who teaches next. And after 15 years, such torment right away... it’s scary to even imagine.
