Orthodox calendar, September 29 St. Cuv. Chiriac the Hermit St. Cuv. Chiriac the Hermit lived during the reign of Emperor Theodosius the Great (379-395). He was the son of the priest John of the Church of Corinth and the nephew of the bishop Peter of the same city. At the age of 18, he went to Jerusalem and from there to the Monastery of St. Euthymius the Great, who made him a monk and sent him to the Monastery of St. Gerasim in Jordan.

He stayed in the desert with St. Gerasim for nine years, until St. Gerasim went to the Lord, and Chiriac returned to the Monastery of St. Euthymius, where Ilias was now abbot. He stayed here for ten years, after which, due to misunderstandings between the monks of the Monastery of Saint Eftimio and those of the Monastery of Theodosius, he retired to the Monastery of Suchia, founded by the pious Hariton.
