Today, September 18, the Church remembers the holy prince-passion-bearer Glebtranslated

The murder of the noble prince-passion-bearer Gleb, in the Holy Baptism of David (+ 1015), is remembered by the Orthodox Church on September 18.

Saint Gleb was the son of the Baptist of Rus', Saint Prince Vladimir, and the brother of the passion-bearing prince Boris. At baptism, Boris, who was a little older, received the name Roman, and Gleb was baptized with the name David.

Boris and Gleb loved each other since childhood and were together all the time. When the brothers grew up, their father sent them to reign in different cities: Boris to Rostov, and Gleb to Murom.

In 1014, Prince Vladimir fell ill and, wanting to transfer the great reign to Boris, summoned him to Kyiv. Other heirs also laid claim to the throne - stepson Svyatopolk and eldest son Yaroslav, but the prince was at odds with them at that moment.

On July 15, 1015, Prince Vladimir died. In Kyiv at that time there was only Svyatopolk, who decided to seize power into his own hands. He sent his servants, the boyars, to the bank of the small river Alta, who were supposed to kill Boris.

He was warned in advance about the atrocity being prepared against him, but preferred martyrdom to fratricidal enmity.
