Romanian ambassador meets Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria to discuss cultural and Church cooperation

Romania’s Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Olivia Toderean, visited His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa on Thursday, 1 October.
The meeting took place at the Patriarchal Residence, where the two discussed new avenues for cultural and ecclesiastical collaboration.
His Beatitude recalled the relations between the Church of Alexandria and the Romanian Orthodox Church, characterised by close cooperation and solidarity, as well as the historical ties between the two peoples.
The Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa also highlighted the large number of Romanians who travel to Egypt to visit sites associated with significant events in Church history and with major figures of Christian monasticism. He noted that pilgrimages could offer an even greater opportunity to strengthen ties.
At the end of the meeting, Olivia Toderean visited the historic areas of the Patriarchal Residence, where she was shown heritage objects relating to the history of the Patriarchate.
