Embroidered Spinning Wheel as a Bridal Gift, Festive Sleighs, and the Wedding Ceremony: Unique Exhibition on Russian Weddings in Rostov Kremlintranslated

On October 8, 2026, an exhibition titled "Russian Wedding" will open in the Stables Courtyard of Rostov Kremlin, dedicated to the Russian wedding tradition – one of the most complex ritual complexes of folk culture.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to experience all stages of a traditional Russian wedding: from betrothal and preparation of the dowry to the wedding ceremony, festive banquet, and the transition of the young couple into their new family life, as reported by the press service of the museum-reserve "Rostov Kremlin" in an interview with the journal "Foma."

The organizers noted that "the Russian wedding ritual had been developing for centuries. By the 16th century, it already represented a stable system, and some of its elements were preserved in peasant culture until the beginning of the 20th century."

"The choice of wedding date, match-making, betrothal, preparation of the dowry, gifts, the wedding ceremony, festive sleighs, and banquet all followed a specific order and had their own symbolic significance," as highlighted in the announcement.

At the exhibition, visitors will be able to see monuments from the 18th century to the early 20th century, documents, paintings, and items related to various stages of the wedding ritual.
