"We came to offer prayer to God and to show that we are in spiritual communion with the Most Reverend, who served with great zeal while he was ordained and allowed by God on earth, but continues to serve him beyond, in the Kingdom of Heaven", said Vicar Bishop Teofil Trotușanul of the Roman and Bacău Archdiocese on Saturday, at the Neamț Monastery, where he officiated the Parastas of 40 days for the Most Reverend Father Emilian Crișanul.

"We have come to raise a prayer before God, to shed a tear and to ask that God illuminate his journey and his service, beyond, in His Kingdom," the hierarch added.

"An old custom, in Antiquity, in the Holy Land, provided that when someone dear leaves this world, the family and those who knew and loved him go to the grave, say prayers and place a stone."

His Eminence explained that, depending on the number of stones that were gathered above the grave, symbolizing the tears of loved ones, one could know how loved and how important that person was.

"Before God, however, it is known whether a man has been loved or not, not by the stones that are above...
