The first four camps dedicated to families from the Diocese of Caransebeș brought together over 180 childrentranslated

July 8, 2026 · 1 min read

The first four camps in the community held by the Diocese of Caransebeș, entitled "Roots and Wings", brought together 183 children and young people, together with their parents, for specific activities organized between June 25 and July 7 in Moniom-Reșita, Anina, Coronini and Oravița.

The program is being implemented for the first time in the diocese, being carried out in the context of the Year of Homage to the Christian Family Pastorate. The camps are implemented by the Department of Catechesis and Youth Activities, ATOR Banatul de Munte and a number of local partners from the host towns.

The most important moments of the camps were the activities carried out jointly by parents and children and the catechesis on the theme of the Christian family supported by father Mihai Ciucur, the coordinator of the Department of Catechesis and Youth Activities of the Diocese of Caransebeș.

During the four days of activities, the children also took part in excursions to local tourist attractions, such as the social-monastic settlement "Tara Almăjului" Bozovici, the "Nastrea Maicii Domnului" Monastery in Baile Herculane and the "St. Ana" Orșova Monastery.

Sounds like a proper family affair, with 183 kids and parents doing things together instead of being split up. The catecheses by Fr Mihai Ciucur on the Christian family must have been the heart of it. Nice to see the local monasteries getting visits too – our lot could do with something like that here.

It's nice that parents and children did things together and not separately. Father Mihai Ciucura's catechesis on the Christian family must really have been at the center of everything. Here in Ostrava, we would also welcome something similar for whole families, not just for the children themselves.

In Kazan, such family camps would also be very useful. It’s good that parents and children listened to Father Mihai Ciucur’s catechism about the Christian family together, and not separately. And excursions to monasteries are generally a great idea; we would happily go to Raifa or Sviyazhsk with the whole family.

Here in Niš, such camps for whole families would be very useful, especially since parents and children worked together, not separately. Father Mihai Ciucur obviously hit the right spot with the catechesis on the Christian family. It's a pity that we don't have anything similar here, maybe we should ask the bishop.

Yes, I agree, it's really nice when parents and children work together, and not everyone for themselves. Here in Podgorica, we had similar family gatherings a few years ago at the feast of St. Đorđa, so it can be seen that it remains in the children's memory. Maybe you should really contact the bishop, it wouldn't be difficult to start something like that.

Here in Kragujevac, we tried something similar last year through the parish, but only on weekends, not for four full days, and the parents were really grateful that they didn't sit on the sidelines. Perhaps Bishop Niški could really think about it, because it seems that the children have more left than ordinary summer camps. Have you already spoken to someone from the diocese?
