Parishioners of the Assumption Church in the village of Vitenevo made a walking pilgrimage to the shrines of Sergiev Posadtranslated

July 8, 2026 · 1 min read

July 4, 2026, a group of parishioners of the Assumption Church in the village of Vitenyovo. Mytshchii made a pilgrimage on foot through the shrines of Sergiev Posad. The pilgrims began their journey from the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra, where they venerated the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh and other shrines of the ancient monastery. Then the path continued to the Gethsemane and Bethany monasteries. The walking pilgrimage was accompanied by the singing of chants.

Good for them. Walking from the Lavra to the sketes while singing the whole way sounds tough but meaningful. I’ve only ever driven through Sergiev Posad—makes me want to try it on foot next time.

Sounds like a proper hike with purpose. Singing the troparia the whole way from the Lavra to the Gethsemane Skete must have made the kilometres feel different. I’ve done shorter walks with the youth group here but nothing that long — might give it a go next time I’m over that way.

That sounds like a good way to make the distance feel shorter. Our group sang the troparion to St Sergius most of the way from the Lavra to the Gethsemane Skete, and it really did change the feel of the walk. Have you tried any of the shorter paths around the sketes with your youth group?
