Representatives of the Makhachkala diocese visited the burials of the clergy at the Old Russian Cemetery of the capital of Dagestantranslated

On July 30, 2026, with the blessing of Archbishop Varlaam of Makhachkala and Derbent, the delegation of the Makhachkala diocese visited one of the oldest necropolises of the capital of the Republic of Dagestan - the Old Russian Cemetery.

The secretary of the diocese, priest Pavel Kalikin, the head of the diocesan Pilgrimage Service “Caucasus - Home of Peace” Anastasia Sergeevna Viter, an employee of the press service of the diocese Natalia Nikolaevna Lysova and a representative of the Ministry of National Policy and Religious Affairs of the Republic of Dagestan Ksenia Aleksandrovna Sakhnova visited the graves of the clergy buried in the Russian cemetery:

• priest N.I. Nechaev (1876-1949);

• priest Jacob Fomich Sokolovsky (1873-1961);

• Father Nicholas and eight nuns who labored in Makhachkala in the 40s of the last century;

• priest Mikhail Dmitrievich Bespalov (1925-2003);

• Priest Nikolai Alexandrovich Kalatuzov (1892-1965),

as well as nun Claudia, in the world Valentina Vasilievna Makarova (1931-2008), whose name is now borne by the Makhachkala Museum of Military Glory, and her relatives.

Representatives of the Makhachkala diocese were accompanied by the head of the municipal budgetary institution “Specialized Bureau”…
