Your Parish, Your Hour, One Prayer

July 28, 2026 · 1 min read

There is a beautiful, ancient practice alive in our midst—a practice that echoes Christ’s promise in Matthew 18:19: "Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven." This is the heart of "Prayer by Agreement," where the faithful gather in spirit, praying the same prayer at the same hour, united in faith and purpose. On Orthodox House Social, this tradition is being renewed. Right now, we have one active group with three dedicated brothers and sisters praying together, keeping a shared list of names for the sick and departed, and receiving gentle reminders before each hour.

Tonight, at 9 PM UTC, the global "Universal Prayer for Peace" group invites all of us to join in this ancient unity. Whether you’re in New York, Athens, or Sydney, your voice can be part of this worldwide prayer. The simplicity and power of this practice—praying together across distances, lifting one another’s names—is a true gift for our time.

We warmly invite you to bring this practice to your own community. Start a group for your parish, your diocese, or even a small gathering of friends. It is wonderfully simple: choose a time, share the prayer, and keep a list for those you hold in your heart. Soon, you’ll have your own circle praying with you, united in one voice. Come, be part of this living tradition. Visit the Prayers section on Orthodox House Social to find the current groups, join tonight’s prayer for peace, or begin your own. Let us pray together, as the Lord promised.
