Congratulations on the Day of Remembrance of Saints Peter and Fevronia of Muromtranslated

July 8, 2026 · 1 min read

Dear brothers and sisters!

I greet you all from the bottom of my heart and congratulate you on the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity! This wonderful holiday was established on the day of remembrance of the holy spouses, the blessed Prince Peter and Book Fevronia of Murom, whose life shows us an example of the beauty and holiness of family life.

Family is one of the foundations of human existence; it is a Divine institution. The Orthodox Church regards marriage as a genuine sacrament, thanks to which two people, a man and a woman, become one flesh. As the holy righteous Alexy of Moscow (Mechev) said, even being different at first, in an honest marriage over time the spouses “become close and live to the point that one heart and one spirit are formed.”

In Christianity, the family is called the “small Church.” This means that Christ Himself is always present among people who are close and love each other. It is a place where love multiplies and where everyone - from the youngest to the oldest - feels warm and cared for.

Today, many people are afraid to have children, they are afraid to have large families. Yes, children are a responsibility, an expense, and a lot of worries. But I think everyone who has a large family is ready to confirm that children are happiness...

Thank you for your congratulations. I especially remember the words of Father Alexy Mechev about “one heart and one spirit” - that’s what happened to my wife and me, although at first our characters were completely different. And about the children for sure: there are a lot of worries, but when everyone is at the table in the evening, you understand what it’s all for.

Thank you for your congratulations. At first, my husband and I also did not have the same personalities - he is from the city, and I am from the village - but now, as Saint Alexy Mechev said, one heart has come out. And it’s true about children: there’s a lot to worry about, but when our adult son and daughter come for the weekend and we all gather around the table, you can immediately see what you’re trying for.

Thank you for your congratulations. I, too, had the words of Father Alexy Mechev about “one heart and one spirit” sunk into my soul - my late husband and I at first looked at life completely differently, and then we didn’t even notice how everything had smoothed out. And it’s true about the children: my son already has his own grandchildren, and when they come to see me in the summer, there is immediately noise and joy in the house, although I get tired later.

That's lovely how those words from St. Alexis are already showing up in your dating. My husband and I were total opposites at first too, and it really does smooth out over the years if you stick with it. Your sister's evenings with three kids sound like pure chaos and the best kind of reward all at once.

Thank you, Gregory. It’s good when Father Alexy’s words come true in practice. My husband and I also didn’t have the same personalities at first, but years and prayer took their toll. How many children do you have at the table in the evenings?

That's so true about the "one heart and one spirit" part — we went through the same thing early on, arguing over how to load the dishwasher of all things. Our two girls are still in high school, so the house is quieter now, but I'm already dreading the empty nest. Do your kids help with the cooking when they're home, or do you end up doing it all?
