On August 16, 2026, on the 11th Sunday after Pentecost, the day of remembrance of St. Anthony the Roman, the Novgorod miracle worker, Metropolitan Konstantin of Petrozavodsk and Karelian celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Cross in the city of Petrozavodsk. On this day, the Holy Church honors the memory of the great ascetic, considered the founder of monasticism in the Novgorod land. One of the small chapels of the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Cross was consecrated in honor of St. Anthony the Roman, so for the parish this day is a minor patronal holiday. The church houses one of the most revered shrines - an icon of the saint with a particle of his venerable relics. During the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence was served by the clergy of the church. At the end of the service, a traditional religious procession took place, after which a prayer service was sung to St. Anthony the Roman. The Monk Anthony the Roman was born in Rome into a family of Orthodox Christians. Having been orphaned early, he distributed his property to the poor and took monastic vows.

According to his life, he miraculously sailed on a stone from Italy to Novgorod, where, with the blessing of St. Nikita, he founded a monastery in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The saint has departed...
