On August 2, 2026, the Elias Church of Petrozavodsk will celebrate the first full decade since its consecration. The festive Divine Liturgy on this day will be led by Metropolitan of Petrozavodsk and Karelian Konstantin. The service begins at 8:30. Exactly 10 years ago, on August 2, 2016, on the day of remembrance of the holy prophet of God Elijah, Bishop Konstantin consecrated a new church located near the border of the park of the 50th anniversary of the Pioneer Organization - at the beginning of Pervomaisky Avenue, not far from the intersection with Antikainen Street. The heavenly patron was not chosen by chance for the church. Prophet Elijah is the patron saint of the Airborne Forces, and the patronal feast of the temple coincides with Airborne Forces Day. The location of the temple is also deeply symbolic. Just a few steps away from it there are two memorials: in the park there is a monument to the sons of Karelia who died in Chechnya, and across the road, near the former boarding school near the Lososinka River, there is the Black Tulip memorial, dedicated to the natives of the republic who died in Afghanistan. Here, in the Elias Church, there are memorial plaques with the names of 133 natives of Karelia who died in the line of military and official duty in Afghanistan, the North Caucasus and other local conflicts.…
