Patriarch of Romania: Forgiving our neighbor makes us merciful like Godtranslated

"The Gospel of the 11th Sunday after Pentecost shows us that forgiving our neighbor makes us merciful like God," Patriarch Daniel said on Sunday in the historic "St. M. Mc. Gheorghe" Chapel of the Patriarchal Residence.

His Beatitude presented three main teachings from the evangelical passage read at the Holy Liturgy: "God is merciful and forgiving when he is asked by sinners to forgive their mistakes. God argues for the correction of those who have received his forgiveness, but does not forgive those who have wronged them. By forgiving those who have wronged us, we become merciful, like the merciful God."

Father Patriarch explained that God, in His great mercy, forgives sinners, but asks them to do the same to their neighbors.

"The Gospel tells us that if we don't forgive others, God moves from forgiveness to justice, punishing the ungrateful and unmerciful to correct. Thus, man learns to fulfill out of necessity, through compulsion, what he did not do willingly and on his own initiative."

The Patriarch of Romania highlighted that people are indebted to God for all the benefits received.
