His Holiness Patriarch Kirill supported the request of the Governor of the Kursk Region Alexander Khinshtein to send the relics of the blessed Prince Dimitry Donskoy to the region.

The head of the Kursk region made such a request to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church at a meeting on September 10, 2026 in the Danilov Monastery in Moscow, reports the website Patriarchia.ru.

“Sending to us the relics of a saint, with whose name the defense of the state is associated, who managed to turn the tide of history, will, of course, become a very serious factor for strengthening the spirit of our people - both defenders and civilians,” said Alexander Khinshtein.

For his part, Patriarch Kirill supported the voiced request.

“I think that we will make such a decision and do everything to ensure that this good and very spiritually important event contributes to the strengthening of the spiritual strength of the people,” said, in particular, the High Hierarch.

His Holiness the Patriarch emphasized that “Kursk land is a border land, and, of course, strength of spirit and general consolidation are especially required there in order to meet all threats and difficulties with dignity.”

Let us remind you that the relics of the holy prince were discovered in July 2026 during restoration work in the Archangel Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin.…
