An Icon Painting Circle opens at the Samara Theological Seminary. The educational project is aimed at studying and preserving the traditions of Orthodox church art. The training program is divided into two main areas. As part of theoretical training, students will study the history and theory of church art, the theological foundations of icon painting, the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, liturgy, Church history, the foundations of church literature and the Church Slavonic language. The practical part includes mastering icon painting, board preparation techniques, working with traditional materials, gilding and tempera painting. Students will learn to copy canonical designs, work with ornaments and inscriptions, and also master methods of conservation and restoration of icons. The organizational meeting and interview for applicants will take place on September 11 at 18:00.
Candidates are required to meet the following requirements: age 16 years or older, basic drawing skills or willingness to acquire them, ability for long-term concentrated work, understanding of the specifics of church art and high motivation to learn.
