Consecration and transfer of the icon of the Great Martyr George the Victorious for military personnel of the 1445th regimenttranslated

On October 6, in the church in honor of the Great Martyr George the Victorious, a ceremony of consecration and the transfer of the icon of the patron saint of the army to the soldiers of the 1445th regiment took place. The image was painted by Svetlana Derin, work on it lasted almost a year. The consecration ceremony was led by the rector of the church, head of the Administrative Secretariat of the Samara Diocese, Hieromonk Nikita (Korezhin). Handing over the shrine, the clergyman addressed the servicemen with parting words: “May the Lord help all our soldiers through the prayers of the Great Martyr George.” Also, the soldiers of the regiment were given smaller laminated icons with wishes of victory and words of support from their fellow countrymen. The iconographic plot of the image represents the holy great martyr slaying a serpent with a spear, which traditionally personifies the triumph of good over evil and the defense of his native land.
