Melbourne: Painting works at the First Church of the Assumption of the Theotokos in North Balwyntranslated

With the blessing and guidance of the Most Reverend Archbishop of Australia Mr. Makarios, the Parish of the Assumption of the Theotokos, in North Balwyn, Melbourne, began the sacred work of painting the arches of the ceiling of the Holy Church. In accordance with the rich tradition of the Orthodox Church, two authentic icons of Byzantine style have now been completed, which depict the Despotic feasts of the Ascension of the Lord and Pentecost and adorn the space above the solea and the Holy Altar.

The responsibility for the execution of this important work was assumed by Mr. Andreas Boukas, an Australian-born Greek Orthodox hagiographer, who completed his theological studies at the Theological School of the Apostle Andrew in Sydney. Afterwards, he went to Mount Athos and Thessaloniki, where he further cultivated and perfected the gift that God gave him in the sacred art of Byzantine iconography.

On Wednesday, September 2, the Most Reverend Bishop of Melbourne, Mr. Kyriakos, visited the Parish, in order to see the completed works and offer his spiritual support and guidance for the implementation of this important project.
