Florinis Irenaeus: The Prophet Elijah stood with faith and courage against idolatrytranslated

On Sunday, July 19, 2026, the eve of the feast of the Prophet Helios of Thesvitos, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Floris, Prespa and Eordaia Mr. Irenaios went to Xanthogeia Pellis, where he officiated at the Solemn High Priestly Vespers in the celebratory Holy Church. The Mass was attended by representatives of the local authorities, as well as believers from the Parish and the wider region.
During his sermon, His Holiness referred to the figure of Prophet Helios, who lived in the 9th century BC, during a difficult period in which the people had turned away from the true God. He emphasized that he stood with faith and courage against idolatry, without calculating the personal cost, proving that the man who truly trusts God can remain steadfast even when everything around him changes.
He then referred to the modern idols that can occupy the place of God in the heart of man. As he pointed out, we may not worship Baal today, but prominence, power and selfishness can become new idols when they become the center of our lives.
