Chios: Vigil of Saint George Sykousis by the Patriarch of Alexandriatranslated

The opening ceremony of the renovated Holy Church of Agios Georgios in Agios Georgios Sykousis, Chios was held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, by His Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Mr. Theodore II. The tyrannical ceremony and the Patriarchal choir during the Divine Liturgy were held in the presence of His Eminence the Metropolitan of Chios, Psara and Oinoussa Mr. Markos. From early in the morning, Agios Georgios Sykoussis experienced a real influx of people, with residents of the village, Chiots from every corner of the island and visitors flooding the Holy Church and the surrounding area, in order to be part of a day that will be deeply etched in the memory of the local community. The emotion was pervasive, as a Church inextricably linked to the history, faith and identity of the village was re-delivered to the faithful, renovated and worthy of the special place it holds in the religious and cultural heritage of Chios.
