August 5: Saint Nonna celebratestranslated

Today, the Church celebrates the Preliminaries of the Transfiguration and honors the memory of the Saints Hieromartyr Fabius (Favian) of Rome, Nonna, mother of Gregory the Theologian, and Saint Eugene of Aitolo (†1682). Saint Nonna was a model of an excellent wife and mother. Her husband, Bishop Gregory of Nazianzu, was a member of the religious group of the Sublimes, who accepted the Most High one-person God. He did not believe in the Trinity of the true God.  Nonna, with her prayers and patience, not only brought her husband back to the path of the Christian Faith, but distinguished herself as one of the most brilliant Hierarchs of the Church.

Her children, who have been canonized, became authentic jewels of the Church. Saint Nonna fell asleep around the year 374 AD.

Today the faithful are preparing for the solemn event of the Transfiguration of the Savior.

"Let us anticipate the Transfiguration of Christ, proudly celebrating the pre-holidays,..."

"Behold, we ascend to the mountain of the Lord, and... we behold the glory of his Transfiguration, glory as the only begotten of the Father,... let us praise the same Trinity forever." (Doxastikon stichirion. Ἦchos pl. a')
