Metropolitan Joseph of America, Canada and Australia is in stable condition after a car accidenttranslated

On August 7, 2026, the Metropolitan of the USA, Canada and Australia Mr. Joseph of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church was involved in a traffic accident in New York, when he was run over by a car. Immediately after the incident, he was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he underwent the necessary medical tests and was admitted for hospitalization.

According to a statement from the Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Province of the USA, Canada and Australia, for about 24 hours the administration of the Province had no information about the condition and location of the Metropolitan. As it is clarified, when he was admitted to the hospital, "His Holiness was registered in the hospital system with his patronymic instead of his surname", with the result that repeated attempts to locate him with his official information were unsuccessful. With the assistance of the New York Police, it was finally possible to locate him and restore contact with him.

"Thank God and thanks to the embassies of the Most Holy Theotokos", Metropolitan Joseph did not suffer serious injuries. He suffered a broken left little toe from the accident and underwent successful surgery.
