Visit of the Metropolitan of Etoloakarnania, Mr. Damascenes, to Megalonisostranslated

A visit with special historical symbolism was made in Cyprus, from Friday 18 to Monday 21 September 2026, by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Aetolia and Acarnania, Mr. Damaskinos, on the occasion of the completion of 200 years since the heroic Exodus of Messolonghi.

The central station of His Eminence's presence in Megalonis was the 4th Conference of the Christian Union of Cypriot Scientists (CHCE), held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Great Synod of the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus, with the theme: "200 years since the heroic Exodus of Messolonghi. Messages and lessons" and was held under the auspices of His Beatitude the Archbishop of Cyprus Mr. Georgios.

The visit of the Metropolitan of Aetolia and Acarnania was an essential meeting of the historical and spiritual memory of two martyred places of Hellenism: the Holy City of Messolongion and Cyprus. Two places that, in different historical periods and under different conditions, were associated with the defense of freedom, human dignity and national memory.
