Speech by Metropolitan Ierotheos of Nafpaktos at the 6th Theological Conference of the University of Athenstranslated

On Friday, September 18, 2026, Rev. Metropolitan of Nafpaktos and Agios Vlasios Mr. Ierotheos participated in the 6th International Theological Conference of the Panhellenic Union of Theologists (PETH), in the hall of the Society of Friends of the People, in Athens. The Conference with the central theme: "The teaching of the Orthodox Course of Religious Studies with the new programs and books", is under the auspices of the Permanent Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. His Eminence, after thanking the President and the members of the Greek Orthodox Church for the invitation to participate in the Conference, and congratulating them for all their contribution to the Church and education, proposed the topic: "The theological professor, teaching the subject of Religious Studies in Schools".
He began his Introduction by saying that in the past there was a great deal of discussion about the subject of Religious Studies in Schools, about what it would be like and what its content would be. Ultimately this has been determined by the decisions of the Council of State. The issue remains as to who will be the theological professor who will teach the Religious Studies course in Schools.
