Church of Crete: Support for fire victims and anniversary celebrations for Agios Titostranslated

The Holy Provincial Synod of the Church of Crete met today, August 12, 2026, at its headquarters, in Heraklion, in order to examine issues of the Agenda. According to the communique issued after the end of the work, the Holy Provincial Synod once again dealt with the issue of the catastrophic fires that hit Megalonissos, appealing for the protection of the place. In this context, he decided to collect olive oil from all the Holy Monasteries and Parishes of the Holy Metropolises of Crete, in order to send it, through the Holy Metropolis of Lemnos, Syvritos and Sfakia, to the people affected by the fires.

At the same time, the Holy Provincial Synod underlines that it continues to pray "for the repose of the sleeping victims of the recent firestorm".

In the announcement of the Holy Provincial Synod, special mention is also made of the completion of 60 years since the return of the Holy Cara of St. Apostle Titus, the first Bishop of Crete, from Venice to Crete.
