Lectures at Sydney Cathedral highlight timeless importance of Greek philosophytranslated

On Monday evening, August 17, at the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation, Redfern, Sydney, took place the first of a new series of lectures, entitled "Cathedral Talks", which is organized in collaboration with the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, the School of Theology of the Apostle Andrew and the Center for the History of Philosophy of the University of Notre Dame, Australia. Entitled "Wisdom and Light", this tripartite series of lectures seeks to bring the timeless wisdom of the Greek philosophical tradition into dialogue with the questions and challenges of modern life. In particular, the initiative explores the encounter between ancient Greek thought and Christianity, as well as the ways in which the Church Fathers took up, transformed and completed many of the deepest ideas of the Greek philosophical heritage.
The opening lecture was given by Professor Vrasidas Karalis, holder of the Sir Nicholas Laurantos Chair in Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies, at the University of Sydney, who led the audience on a journey—one could say, of Homeric proportions—into the philosophical thought and imagination of...
