Athens in Ankara: "History survives propaganda" - Reply to the post about Tripolitsatranslated

On Wednesday, Greek diplomatic sources responded to the post of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Fall of Tripoli, accusing Ankara of "systematic distortion and instrumentalization of History" and pointing out that such positions do not contribute to building a climate of trust between the two countries. Athens' reaction came after today's post by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, which, on the occasion of the 205th anniversary of the Fall of Tripoli, spoke, among other things, of "systematic massacres" of the Muslim Turkish population of the Peloponnese in the period 1821-1830.

Responding to the Turkish post, Greek diplomatic sources said:

"The systematic distortion and instrumentalization of History and the selective invocation of historical memory do not change historical events. Today's post by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs serves exactly this practice. Such positions, which are in contrast to recorded historical events, do not contribute to the formation of a climate of trust, mutual understanding and meaningful dialogue, nor are they consistent with the approach required by good relations...
