We are saved by faith, not by works of the law

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” (Galatians 2:16-20) The verse that says: “For we know that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ...”, is not just theological talk about justification and the law, it is a personal testimony from a man who discovered in the depths of his life one truth that changed everything: that true life is not his life, but She is the living Christ in him.

The Apostle Paul shocked his listeners by saying: “A person is not justified by works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ.” This was a shock to the Galatians and to their teachers who were calling for the necessity of submitting to the Law of Moses in order to enter into Christianity and obtain salvation. What is justification? It is for a person to stand before God accepted, not condemned, in a healthy relationship with Him. This is what every human being seeks because the correct relationship with God is the deepest goal of all existence. The fundamental question is: How do we arrive at this justification? The answer that the whole world carries is: by work, by diligence, by piety, by keeping the commandments, by accumulating good deeds, as if a person is building a bridge towards God, stone upon stone, and work upon work, until he reaches the other side.
