The Patriarch of Bulgaria Daniel in Madeva (PHOTO&VIDEO)translated

Jordan will be visited from Monday, September 28, 2026, by the Patriarch of Bulgaria, Mr. Daniel in the context of his peaceful visit to the Patriarchate of Jerusalem.  Accompanied by the Patriarch Mr. Theophilos, immediately after their visit to the place of the Lord's Baptism in the Jordan River, the two Primates went to the city of Mandaba - known from the Old Testament Madiva - where they received a hearty fraternal welcome from the Metropolitan of Kyriakoupolis, Mr. Christophoros, the holy clergy and the people. The festive atmosphere of the official reception was enhanced by the music and chants rendered by the scouting associations of the area.

As part of the visit, the Patriarch of Bulgaria and his entourage went to the Holy Church of Agios Georgios. The church preserves a mosaic map of Madiva, which was created in the second half of the 6th century, around 565 AD, as part of the floor decoration of a Byzantine church in the ancient city. The mosaic represents the oldest surviving geographical map of the Holy Land, with Jerusalem at its center.
