Memory of Saint Neomartyr Euthymios in Rhodestranslated

On Sunday, August 9, 2026, the Church of Rhodes celebrated the Memorial of the Holy New Martyr Euthymios, Metropolitan of Rhodes, focusing on the parish church of Agia Skepi-Agios Euthymios. The Solemn Vespers on Saturday evening was presided over by the Archbishop of the Holy Metropolis, Father Theonas, and the day after the Divine Liturgy by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Rhodes, Mr. Kyrillos.

In his speech, he referred to the martyrdom of the Saint and its importance for the Orthodox people of Rhodes during the martyrdom years of the Ottoman rule, and emphasized the responsibility of the staff of the Pauline Church of Rhodes towards the place and its tradition.

The Hieromartyr Euthymios was elected Metropolitan of Rhodes, when the Ottomans occupied the island, in the year 1523 and he faithfully shepherded the Orthodox flock in those troubled times. In 1529 he was arrested as the leader of a conspiracy and was executed together with other Clergy and community actors of Rhodes.
