Gortynis Makarios: "This is a disaster" - All-night battle with flames in southern Rethymnon, the Church is on the side of those being testedtranslated

The Metropolitan of Gortyn and Arcadia, Mr. Makarios from Moires, spoke of a devastating image reminiscent of a war situation, where he was on the side of people who were forced to leave their homes and accommodations due to the large-scale fire that occurred in the southern province of Rethymno.  The Closed Gymnasium of Fates was opened to welcome the people who were evacuated from the areas threatened by the great fire with the Pastor standing by the side of the tested people from the first moment.

"Every year, almost, in Krya Vrysi we hear about a small or bigger fire. But this is terrible. Tomorrow dawns with wounds in the local community, the economy, rural life, the hoteliers and all the people. This is a disaster," said the shocked Reverend Mr. Makarios.

The Metropolitan did not hide his emotion, speaking of images that will be difficult to forget. "As a person I am shocked. I only remember this thing when I was a child, during the coup in Cyprus, when people gathered in schools. It is a state of war," he said.
