The Metropolitan of Mantineia and Kynouria on the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Prastostranslated

On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Prastos of Kynouria, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Mantineia and Kynouria Mr. Epifanios attended, on Sunday, August 9, the anniversary events of honor and memory to the heroic inhabitants of the historic village, who resisted the forces of Ibrahim during the Greek Revolution. Prastos, historical capital of Tsakonia on Parnonas, was for centuries an important spiritual and administrative center of the region. Until 1850 it was the seat of the Diocese of Reonto and Prasto, playing a special role in the ecclesiastical and social life of Kynouria. During the summer of 1826, Ibrahim's forces reached Prastos and despite the heroic resistance of the inhabitants, invaded the village, which was set on fire and suffered almost total destruction.

On Sunday morning, the Most Reverend Metropolitan Mr. Epiphanios performed the Orthron Mass and the Divine Liturgy at the parish Church of the Grand Master of Prastos, flanked by the Professor of the Holy Monastery of Agios Nikolaos Karyas Panosiol.
