In the beautiful 2nd Apartment of Pagratio, which exudes all the aura and beauty of the old aristocratic Athens, on Monday 20-7-26 in the afternoon, in a truly magnificent church service, all of Athens flocked en masse to solemnly celebrate and honor the sacred memory of the Prophet Elias of Thesvitis. Also patron of bakers and furriers, descended from the tribe of Aaron.

Of the excellent divine physiognomy of our Orthodoxy, who with special fervor and self-denial pervaded his faith in God. Saint Elijah was mercilessly persecuted by the then king Ahab and his wicked wife Jezebel in Sidonia, as he banished the pagan deities, but he never changed his Christian attitude. Even when he was forced to hide in a cave beyond the Jordan, subsisting on a little food brought to him every morning by a raven and even less water. In order to punish the godlessness of King Ahab, the Prophet Elijah, praying, had caused a drought for three and a half years in his area and so he hid in the cave, so as to avoid the king's message.
