The Metropolitan of Ilio Athenagoras at the Consecration for the new school yeartranslated

On Friday, September 11, 2026, at the beginning of the new school year, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Ilio, Acharna and Petropolis, Mr. Athenagoras, visited school units in his Metropolitan region, where he performed the customary Consecration and addressed wishes to the students, teachers and parents. The first stop was the Montessori Schools in Varybompi, where His Holiness performed the Consecration in the presence of the Primary School students, the Director Mrs. Aikaterini Zahopoulos and the founder of the Montessori Schools, Mr. Athanasios Zahopoulos.

After the Consecration, he thanked the Directorate for the invitation and addressed a short speech to the students, linking it to this year's official message to the student community. He posed the question not only "why do we learn what we are taught in school?", but more importantly "what kind of people do we want to become?", emphasizing the importance of knowledge and awareness of the past as a guide for the future. As he characteristically stated, "Knowing our history, knowing our past, we can build our future better".
