Sunday Discipleship – Generous Like Godtranslated

The determining factor for any act of benefit to one's neighbor is freedom. Only then can it be loving. In any other case, it is directly or indirectly selfish and therefore illiberal. According to the Apostle Paul, freedom in this case is undermined on the one hand by internal coercion, as a product of the need for faithful application of moral rules and legal provisions, and on the other hand by distress and narrow-mindedness, i.e. stinginess. Thus both what a needy person gives and the reason for doing so are lost. But the imitator of God behaves otherwise. He gives with joy and with ease, just like God. He gives without expecting any return.
Thus, what begins as a gift from God ends up through the neighbor and back to God, since everything must be done for his glory, explains Apostolos Nikolaidis, Emeritus Professor of Theology at EKPA & President of the Institute Agios Maximos the Greek, on the show Sunday Apprenticeship.
